Have you recently received a letter from Domain Listings LLC, urging you to pay for your website’s URL?

Or maybe it says your Domain is about to expire?

If so, you’re not alone. Many individuals and businesses have been targeted by this scam, and it’s time to shed some light on what’s really going on.

rude mail. just rude.

Domain Listings LLC operates under the guise of offering a crucial service: securing your website’s URL or domain name. They send out official-looking letters that mimic invoices, demanding payment for the renewal or registration of your website address, often ending in ".com.”

But here’s the catch: you don’t need to pay them a dime. Read the print and it says “This is NOT a Bill. It is a solicitation for our services.” They are not a domain provider. They literally put your domain on a “list.” Hence the Name...Domain Listings. Kind of as helpful as the Phone Book my parents kept from 1987. Im sure all of those numbers are still legit. 😂

Here is the best kicker of all....If you are with KW and are getting these notices, your personalized URL is provided TO YOU. You don’t have to pay renewal fees on it.

Going to the Domain Listings site and reading their FAQ, you can see the first question is about billing.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has received numerous complaints about Domain Listings LLC. Customers have reported being misled, harassed, and even threatened by this shady operation. In fact, the BBB has issued a warning about the company, advising consumers to proceed with caution and avoid doing business with them at all costs. My favorite ones are from the Las Vegas BBB Branch. For some giggles, read the complaints here.

So, what should you do if you receive a letter from Domain Listings LLC?

First, if it claims that you need to renew or register your website URL, check with your current domain registrar to confirm the status of your domain. Chances are, you’re already in good standing, and there’s no need to pay Domain Listings LLC.

Secondly, report the scam to the appropriate authorities. You can file a complaint with the BBB, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and your state’s attorney general’s office. By doing so, you not only protect yourself but also help prevent others from falling victim to this scam. You can also remove yourself from their mailing list here.

Finally, spread the word. Warn your peeps about this Domain Listings LLC and similar scams. The more people are aware of these fraudulent schemes, the less successful they will be in deceiving innocent individuals.

Stay Safe and Nerdy. And remember, when in doubt, ASK! Always here to help.
